John Sellars is a third-generation Conroe native and graduate of Conroe High School. He earned a degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University and later completed postgraduate accounting studies at Lone Star College.
Professionally, John works in finance, capital planning, and governmental compliance for a local family business office.
John and his wife Katie, a first-grade teacher in Conroe ISD at Runyan Elementary, are raising their family of two daughters and one son in the community they love.
John is running for City Council because he believes Conroe deserves transparent government and leadership that answers to the citizens, not the insiders at City Hall.
City Hall should always operate in the open, with honesty and clarity at every level. Residents deserve to know how decisions are made, why they are made, and who is responsible for them. Too often, major discussions and decisions happen behind closed doors, leaving the public in the dark.
I believe that trust is built through visibility. That means ensuring that meetings are accessible, communication is clear, and information is readily available to the public. When residents are informed, they are empowered—and that leads to better outcomes for the entire community.
Those who serve in city leadership positions work for the people—plain and simple. Every dollar spent, every policy implemented, and every decision made should reflect the needs and priorities of the taxpayers and residents who fund our city.
Accountability means setting clear expectations and following through. It also means being willing to answer tough questions, take responsibility when things go wrong, and continuously strive to improve. City government should never feel distant or unapproachable—it should be responsive, responsible, and focused on delivering real results for the community.
Conroe is experiencing rapid growth, and with that growth comes both opportunity and responsibility. While development is important for economic vitality, it must be managed thoughtfully to protect the character and quality of life that residents value.
Responsible growth means planning ahead, investing in infrastructure, and ensuring that new development aligns with the long-term vision for the city. It also means creating fair, consistent, and predictable rules so that residents, businesses, and developers all understand the expectations.
Growth should enhance our community—not strain it. By taking a balanced approach, we can welcome new opportunities while preserving what makes Conroe a great place to live.
